## What Is Sillage? Sillage *(see-yazh)* is a French word meaning "wake" — as in the wake a ship leaves behind it. In perfumery, it refers to the scented trail that lingers in the air after you have left a room. When someone says "you smell amazing" as you walk past, that is sillage at work. ## Why It Matters Sillage is not just about smelling good. It is about presence. A fragrance with excellent sillage communicates confidence, intention, and a certain kind of authority that no outfit or accessory can replicate. ## What Determines Sillage? **Concentration** — Eau de Parfum and Parfum project more than Eau de Toilette, simply because there is more aromatic material in the formula. **Ingredient choice** — Musks, ambers, and resins are designed to linger. Light citrus notes evaporate quickly. A fragrance built on a deep musk base will trail further and longer. **Skin chemistry** — Drier skin absorbs fragrance faster and reduces sillage.
